I try as often as I can to attend the Saint's festival celebration in my home town of Carnide and the neighbouring town of Bajouca. These festivals happen all across Portugal and they usually last for 3 days. In my town they're always on the second Sunday of August and I always take vacation around this time to visit. For me this is the best way to get together with family and enjoy some of the best home made food you can have.

There is always a lot of music and a lot drinking, in 2009 the favourite drink was "caipirinha". This is a Brazilian cocktail made with cachaça, lime, brown sugar and lots of crushed ice. I definitely recommend attending these Portuguese Saint's Festivals, this is the best way to experience someone of the culture and history Portugal has to offer.
